PRESIDENT NIXON FOE AND FORMER DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE GEORGE MCGOVERN FEATURED ON AZTECA AMERICA 'S ‘ISSUES: CARAS Y VOCES'
Los Angeles, Feb. 20, 2008 – Azteca America, the fastest-growing Hispanic television network in the United States, is proud to feature former US Congressman, US Senator, and Democratic presidential nominee, George McGovern, in this week's broadcast of “Issues: Caras y Voces” (Issues: Faces and Voices), hosted by veteran Latino journalist Armando Guzmán.
As a three-term US Senator from 1963-1981, as well as a two-term Congressman, and the 1972 Democratic Presidential Candidate, McGovern was well-known as a devoted political adversary of President Richard Nixon, to whom McGovern lost his presidential bid.
Nevertheless, at the age of 85, he has centered many of his efforts on what he describes as having “caused more damage to our prestige in the world… than any other prior government,” The Bush-Cheney Administration. His belief is so strong that he published an opinion piece in the Washington Post on January 6, 2008 entitled “Why Bush Must Go; Nixon Was Bad, These Guys Are Worse.”
Although he recognizes that it is late to initiate the process, he has publicly urged Congress to begin an impeachment process for the current administration.
“This president has constantly broken federal laws, constantly violated the Constitution and constantly lied to the American people,” said McGovern. Among the issues he finds most worrisome are the actions taken towards Iraq and the effect they have had on America 's national security.
“Issues: Caras y Voces” features top leaders that impact the Hispanic community through one-on-one interviews conducted by Armando Guzmán. Covering the White House and the Capitol for almost two decades, Mr. Guzmán is one of the most respected correspondents in Washington . The interview forum airs every Monday evening during Noticiero Azteca America , the network news broadcast of Azteca America.
