Hispanics
have particular needs that should be addressed with targeted
programs and campaigns; Fundación Azteca America is creating
alliances with key organizations to fill these needs while
creating a hub of information for the community, especially
for children and young adults.
Some
of the most important challenges are:
Education: Access to formal education; adult literacy
courses; retention programs in schools to discourage drop
outs and wide promotion of English as a Second Language
(ESL) courses; information technology training; promotion
of extra-curricular activities to discourage youth gang
affiliations.
Health:
Access to affordable and linguistically adequate healthcare
services; promote the availability of health insurance through
public programs and commercial underwriters; nutrition and
diet guidelines; HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
Legal:
Immigration services; labor rights; access to identifications
such as drivers' licenses and Consular IDs; voter registration;
emergency and disaster assistance.
